How to Set Up T-1000S LED Controller: Complete Guide 2026
The T-1000S is the most popular SD card-based pixel LED controller in the world. It supports up to 8,192 LEDs, works with WS2812B, WS2811, APA102, and SK6812 strips, and costs under $15. Not sure if the T-1000S is right for you? See our pixel LED controller comparison for a full breakdown. This guide walks you through the complete setup process.
What You Need
- T-1000S controller (with USB cable and SD card)
- Pixel LED strip (WS2812B, WS2811, APA102, or SK6812)
- 5V or 12V power supply (depending on your strip)
- Windows PC with LedEdit 2014 or LedEdit-K installed
- SD card (FAT32 formatted, 32GB or smaller recommended)
Step 1: Wire the T-1000S
The T-1000S has 4 output ports. For most setups, you only need Port 1.
Port 1 wiring:
| Wire | Connects to |
|---|---|
| GND (Black) | LED strip GND (common ground) |
| DAT (Green) | LED strip DIN (data in) |
| CLK (Yellow) | LED strip CLK (clock — APA102 only, skip for WS2812B) |
| VCC (Red) | Do NOT connect — power the strip separately |
Critical: Power the LED strip directly from the power supply, NOT through the T-1000S. The controller’s VCC output can only handle a few LEDs. For longer strips, use power injection every 50-100 LEDs. Our LED strip installation guide covers wiring best practices in detail.
Power wiring diagram:
Power Supply (+) ──── LED strip VCC (+5V or +12V)
Power Supply (-) ──── LED strip GND ──── T-1000S GND
LED strip DIN ──── T-1000S DAT (Port 1)Step 2: Configure the Controller
- Insert the SD card into the T-1000S
- Connect the USB cable from the T-1000S to your PC
- The controller shows as a removable drive
Set the LED count:
The T-1000S reads a configuration file from the SD card. You set the pixel count through LedEdit when exporting (Step 4).
Step 3: Install LedEdit 2014
If you haven’t installed LedEdit yet:
- Download LedEdit 2014 v2.45 (or LedEdit-K for newer features)
- Install on Windows 10/11 (run as Administrator)
- Install VC++ redistributables if prompted (2010, 2013, 2015-2022)
Fix “Class Not Registered” error: If LedEdit crashes on launch, install the VC++ 2010 redistributable (x86 version) and run as Administrator. See our full LedEdit error fix guide for every known solution.
Step 4: Create a Project and Export Effects
- Open LedEdit 2014
- Go to File → New Project
- Select your controller: T-1000S
- Set your LED layout:
- Type: Select your strip layout (straight, zigzag, matrix)
- Width/Height: Enter your pixel count (e.g., 300 for a strip, 32x32 for a matrix)
- Color order: Set to match your strip (GRB for WS2812B, RGB for most others)
- Click OK
Import effects:
- Go to File → Import Effect (or click the import button)
- Navigate to your effects folder (AVI format recommended)
- Select files — they appear in the effect library
- Double-click to preview each effect
- Arrange effects in your desired playback order
Export to SD card:
- Go to Export → SD Card (or Play → Export)
- Set playback mode:
- Auto: Effects play automatically in sequence
- Manual: Effects change with button press
- Timed: Each effect plays for a set duration
- Set effect duration (5 seconds is standard)
- Click Export
- Wait for the progress bar to complete
- Remove the SD card safely
Step 5: Play Effects
- Insert the SD card into the T-1000S
- Power on the LED strip (separate power supply)
- The controller reads the SD card and plays effects automatically
- Use the buttons on the T-1000S to:
- Mode: Switch between effect playlists
- Speed: Adjust playback speed
- Reset: Restart from the first effect

Common Issues
LEDs Not Lighting Up
- Check that GND is connected between the T-1000S and the LED strip
- Verify the data wire is connected to Port 1 (not Port 2-4)
- Make sure the power supply is on and providing correct voltage
- Try a shorter strip to rule out power issues
Wrong Colors
- Swap DAT and CLK wires if using APA102 strips
- Check the color order setting in LedEdit (GRB vs RGB)
- Some WS2812B strips use RGB instead of GRB — test with a solid color
Flickering or Random Pixels
- Add a 330-ohm resistor between T-1000S DAT and the strip DIN
- Add a 1000µF capacitor across the strip’s VCC and GND
- Make sure the ground wire is solid (no loose connections)
- Reduce the number of LEDs per port if over 500
Effects Not Playing
- Reformat the SD card as FAT32
- Re-export from LedEdit with a different speed setting
- Try a different SD card (some cards have compatibility issues)
- Check that the SD card is not locked
T-1000S vs K-1000C
| Feature | T-1000S | K-1000C |
|---|---|---|
| Max LEDs | 8,192 | 8,192 |
| Output Ports | 4 | 4 |
| Clock Signal | Yes (APA102) | Yes (APA102) |
| WiFi | No | No |
| Price | ~$12 | ~$14 |
| Software | LedEdit 2014+ | LedEdit-K |
Both controllers are nearly identical in performance. The K-1000C has slightly better build quality, but the T-1000S is more widely available and cheaper.
Tips for Best Results
- Use 30 FPS effects — Standard frame rate for smooth playback on the T-1000S
- Keep effects at 5 seconds — Optimal duration for seamless loops
- Match resolution — Create effects at the same pixel count as your strip for sharp rendering
- Organize by category — Sort effects into folders (waves, fire, geometric) for quick access
- Test before exporting — Preview every effect in LedEdit before writing to SD card
- Use quality SD cards — Class 10 or UHS-I, 16GB or smaller
Conclusion
The T-1000S is a reliable, affordable controller for pixel LED projects. With the right effects library and proper wiring, you can create stunning LED displays for home decoration, parties, stages, and commercial installations. The setup process takes about 15 minutes once you have all the components ready.
